Citing the issuance of less than 100 fare evasion tickets in the first two months of the Transit Authority’s purported crackdown, NBC reported that some commuters are questioning whether there is a large enough law enforcement presence at stations to really make a difference.
According to the report, fare evaders cost the agency tens of millions of dollars annually, which prompted the crackdown that included increased fines for offenders.
However, Metro GM and CEO Randy Clarke told NBC that he leans the other way, calling it a “pleasant surprise” that came through "self-correcting behavior.”
